Hi, my name is

Nathaniel Buck.

I am a student living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh studying Computer Science. This is my website.

Websites: Superawesome & Mark Boulton

Web design is something for which I have a passion. After I finish school I would love to be able to make websites for a living, but for now it will just stay a hobby.

In an effort to have nathanielbuck.com reflect who I am and what I like, I plan on displaying nice websites that I come across. These websites will not only be aesthetically pleasing, but must also have clean, valid code, and be accessible Continue reading…

A Few Things

I have added a few new things to nathanielbuck.com. There is nothing too exciting, but my hope is that these improvements will create a better experience for you, the reader. Continue reading…

Last.fm

I love music, and love listening to music. I currently have 8145 songs (44.58 GB) in my growing iTunes library. This is not the largest music library in the world, but a sizable collection, nonetheless.

While at my computer, which is a large portion of my day, I am constantly listening to music. A while ago I started using VirbTunes, a feature that is part of the Virb° social network, to record the music I was playing. VirbTunes uses a plugin that works with iTunes to record your music history. My main motivation for using VirbTunes was to display my recently played music on my website. However, after installing OS X Leopard, I couldn’t get the VirbTunes plugin to work correctly, so I ditched it and started looking for a replacement. Continue reading…

York

York is a Norwegian band led by vocalist Erik Schjerven and guitarist Kjetil Nilsen. The band also includes a bassist and a drummer, but these positions are not filled by full-time members.

I came across York a while ago while searching through CSS Vault’s gallery of attractive websites. At the time they had three songs available to download, so I gave them a listen and loved what I heard. Continue reading…

Apple Introduces New Products at Macworld

Few things get me as excited as watching Macworld conferences. Apple always unveils their new and innovative products at these events, and this year was no exception.

Steve Jobs introduced four items today: major software updates for the iPod Touch and the iPhone, iTunes movie rentals and added features to Apple TV, Time Capsule, and the MacBook Air. Continue reading…

Using RSS Feeds

RSS LogoIf you browse the internet regularly, I’m sure that you’ve seen an RSS logo (pictured to the right) before. RSS feeds are a way to stay updated with news, articles, blog posts, and other internet content without having to constantly check to see if websites have been updated.

RSS feeds alert you when a website that you frequent is updated, so you don’t waste your time by tediously visiting each one. This way, you can view a large amount of online content in a short period of time. RSS feeds are truly for the smart (and lazy) internet browser. Continue reading…

Back in Grey

I’ve been gone from the internet for a while. It was not my intent to be away for so long, but that is how things turned out.

When it comes to websites, I enjoy the process of making them much more than I do maintaining them. The problem is that I am never satisfied with what I make, so I continually build new things just to tear them down. This time I’m only going to tear down after I’ve made something new to take its place.

Last time I tried to bite off more than I could chew. I set high expectations for myself, but wasn’t in any position to reach them. Continue reading…

Content & Feedback

If you haven’t noticed, I’m in the process of building my website. I am currently working on adding content and design to the other sections at the moment. Here is what I have in mind:

Writing: This is going to be a smorgasbord of different topics: articles, reviews, and other topics about me and my worthless life.

Work: Portfolio containing information concerning websites that I have made and my resume.

Media: Music, film, and tv that I enjoy and also reviews. Continue reading…
