Hi, my name is

Nathaniel Buck.

I am a student living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh studying Computer Science. This is my website.

What I'm Writing

The Pittsburgh Penguins

Penguins LogoWith the Stanley Cup Finals only a day away, I thought that I would focus on the Penguins past and present success. It’s been a tremendous season for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and I don’t want to take away from that, but I thought that it also would appropriate to reminisce about the last time the Penguins made it to the NHL Finals. The Benefits of Bicycle Riding

If you weren’t aware, yesterday (May 16th) was Bike to Work Day. I though that I would take this opportunity to share my recent interest in cycling, and benefits that come from it. Continue reading…

Thoughts on the NCAA Tournament

The exciting NCAA tournament came to an end on Monday as the Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Memphis Tigers in overtime to earn the school’s third National Championship. Here are some of my favorite stories and moments from the tournament. Continue reading…

The Soup Nazi Comes to Pittsburgh

Seinfeld is my favorite television show of all time, so I was naturally interested when I heard that “The Original Soupman” was coming to Pittsburgh. The Original Soupman is a franchise version of Soup Kitchen International, the now-closed New York City restaurant owned by Al Yeganeh. Al Yeganeh inspired “The Soup Nazi,” one of the most popular episodes of Seinfeld. Continue reading…

The Office: UK vs. US

If you watch television, there is a good chance that have seen The Office. The Office portrays the daily lives of the employes of the fictitious Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, which is located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The television show has been adapted from the British drama sharing the same name. The British version of the show became very popular, and has also been adapted for German, French, and French Canadian audiences. Continue reading…

March Madness

March is always an exciting time for me, being a huge fan of college basketball. The NCAA Tournament is probably my favorite sporting event of the year, even toping the Superbowl (The Olympics and World Cup are up there too, but they are only every 2 and 4 years, respectively.) College basketball, to me, is unadulterated, passionate sports. It’s great to be able to watch college athletes playing for pride rather than a paycheck. Continue reading…

Simplicity & Stuff

Recently, I’ve begun to change the way I think about things, and my opinion on personal possessions. For a while, I have appreciated what some might call minimalism (when it comes to appearance of things, like computers, for example), but until now these ideas haven’t had an effect on the way I live. Here are some of my thoughts on stuff and why I’ve been trying to simplifying my possessions. Continue reading…

How Not to Fail at a Job Interview

I recently wrote an article about How Not to Fail at a Job Fair. I guess that something went right for me at the job fair because today I interviewed with a company called Vocollect. Here are some things that I learned through the process of preparing myself for the interview, and the actual interview itself. Continue reading…
