School is over for the semester (it was a busy one), so the drought of posting has finally ended. I am very excited that my summer is underway, so I decided to share some of the things that I’m going to do with my time, now that I have some.
1. Work
This Monday, two days from now, I will begin working as a Software Engineer Co-Op at Vocollect, where I will be for the entire summer. I am really excited to start applying the programming skills that I have learned in school, and also hope to learn a lot of new things, becoming a better programmer in general. In addition, I will be working with a friend of mine, which should be fun.
2. Cycling
I recently got a free road bike off of Craigslist. I plan on riding the bike to work everyday, weather permitting. Vocollect is only a couple miles from my house, which makes commuting on a bicycle possible. I see this as an opportunity to save money on gas while getting some exercise. I have really found cycling to be enjoyable, so I’m hoping to use my bike as much as possible this summer.
3. Personal Computer Projects
Now that I don’t have schoolwork to worry about, I have a lot more time to spend working on other personal projects. There are a couple websites that I should be working on, and now I actually have the time to get them done. I’m also hoping to learn some Objective-C, the programming language of choice for writing applications for Apple’s operating system.
4. Watching Play-offs
Right now both the NBA and NHL playoffs are taking place. I am engrossed with the NHL playoffs at the moment, especially due to the Penguins being a part of it. The NBA playoffs have been a little disappointing for me so far, especially some teams from the West, but I think that things should pick up after the first round. I will probably be writing more on this topic soon.
5. Nothing
Noting isn’t a plan, but I’m looking forward to being able to relax, and not having to spend most of my time doing schoolwork. Being outside, in the warm beautiful weather, for any and all reasons, is also something that I hope to do as much as possible.
So, as summer begins, these are things that I am excited for. What are you looking forward to as you pre-summer lives finish?
My plans will be nearly identical. I am really looking forward to working, and also our inevitable work lunches. Also doing nothing is possibly the greatest part of your new schedule. I cannot wait for school to be over so I can relax and focus on personal projects in my free time.
Congratulations on getting done so early. Some of us are still in school for four more weeks.

Glad to hear you plan on incorporating Cycling. Nothing like saving gas and getting in shape at the same time.

I hope that Wednesday night soccer makes the list for your Summer. And seeing me. I’m glad you have a solid layout for your Summer that you’re really looking forward to. I feel it’s going to be a good one, for you.
@jbomb & @buck: I can’t wait to join you for work lunches. And brunches.

@Justin I have a feeling that we can take Vocollect to the next level. Our lunch times should produce creativity and innovation like they have never seen before.
@Faith Yes, I am prepared to get sweaty. To answer your questions, Justin is also working at Vocollect this summer, and we will be working on software for voice-activated products that are used in wearhouses. Also, congratulations on the nannying job; I’m sure that you’ll do well.
@Duncan Your lack of employer commitment staggers me. Let me know who you will be working for when you decide.
@Luke Soccer on Wednesdays will definitely be part of my schedule. Also, you are invited to eat with me any time you like.

Sounds like a solid plan for the summer. I also have a road bike and enjoy biking a lot over the summer as well. I unfortunately am not committed to bike to work, but am working at an insurance company called Travelers. My dad works there so I’ll be saving my money by getting a ride with him.
I’m jealous that you have already started summer while we still have a little less than a month left.
