HD DVD is Dead

This post was published on February 20th, 2008 and was filed under Technology.

Yesterday Toshiba announced it will discontinue making HD DVD players and recorders. I wasn’t expecting the HD DVD Blu-Ray war to be decided this quickly, but I guess I’m glad that someone won.

  1. HD-DVD was the superior format, Sony just bought the win. But you are right, it is good to have a clear winner.

  2. Though Blu-ray had a larger storage space. Upon hearing all the recent studios dropping HD, this announcement didn’t surprise me that much. I’m actually glad, because the market can continue on without this war.

Ultimately I’m glad Blu-ray won. Last thing we need is another DVD type name. Its a stupid way to decide something, but some people will tend to pick something that has more a appealing name.
