Hi, my name is

Nathaniel Buck.

I am a student living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh studying Computer Science. This is my website.

A Few Things

This post was published on January 25th, 2008 and was filed under Aside, Updates.

I have added a few new things to nathanielbuck.com. There is nothing too exciting, but my hope is that these improvements will create a better experience for you, the reader.

Aside Posts

The first new item that will be appearing on nathanielbuck.com is a new form of posting. You may have noticed the different, smaller format for this post. These posts will be used to feature smaller or less important items. The purpose for this is to be able to update more frequently with interesting content, even if it is not big enough for a full-fledged post.

Follow Comments Via E-mail

Another feature that I’ve added at the request of Luke Zappa is the ability to followup on comments via e-mail. To do this, simply check the box under the message text field when leaving a comment. When someone else replies to that post, an e-mail notification will be sent to e-mail address you listed. This way, you won’t miss any of the conversation.

RSS Feeds Section

I know that I mentioned my RSS feeds before, but I now added a section on the home page of my website for easy access to them. Beside the main feed, I have listed the feed for the comments, another way for you to stay updated with the conversation.

So, that it for now. Look forward to seeing more regular updates and let me know if you have any thoughts on the new items.

  2. Hurry comment RSS feeds! Just curious, why do you implement wordpress via functions calls instead of just loading it on your server?

  3. Sour Swinger,

I do that because I like to have control of the website, and it’s a lot harder to add code or customize pages if Wordpress is running everything.

Wordpress is great for managing posts and writing articles and that sort of thing, so that’s what I use it for (it’s installed on the /writing subdirectory). For everything else, though, I would rather be able to edit things myself.
